Recipe for American Style Fried Chicken

Here is a classic recipe for American style fried chicken:

Ingredients:

  • 4 lbs chicken pieces (legs, wings, breasts)
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, mix the buttermilk, salt, and black pepper. Add the chicken pieces to the bowl, making sure they are fully coated in the buttermilk mixture. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, and basil.
  3. Heat the vegetable oil in a large, heavy-bottomed pot over medium heat until it reaches 350°F.
  4. Remove the chicken pieces from the buttermilk mixture, letting any excess liquid drain off. Dredge the chicken pieces in the flour mixture, making sure they are fully coated.
  5. Carefully place the chicken pieces into the hot oil and cook for 10-12 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
  6. Remove the chicken from the oil and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil. Serve hot.
